2024 Maine State Convention

Topic: Equal Rights for Women:  The time is NOW!

Date: May 31 – June 1, 2024

Meeting Location: Hilton Garden Inn, Bangor, ME

AAUW-Maine Convention 2024

Although the Equal Rights Amendment was submitted to Congress 100 years ago, it has never been ratified as an amendment to either the Maine or the United States Constitutions. Come and learn more about the history of the ERA, where it stands now, and how we can, individually and working with other organizations, protect and advance the rights of all women.

The bulk of the program is on Saturday June 1. Speakers include: Catie Reed, Partnerships and Programs Coordinator for Maine Women’s Lobby; Nancy Murdock, a retired architect and co-founder of Equal Rights Maine, a grassroots organization committed to informing people about the importance of the ERA, and advocating and working for the passage and ratification of both the federal and state Equal Rights Amendments; and Dorcas Ngaliema, a Congolese-South African refugee and immigrant, who will share her perspective as a young woman of color on the rights of women, her experiences working in Washington for Angus King, Jon Osoff and currently Ayanna Pressley, and her hopes for the future rights of all women.

The cost of registration is $35.00. Admission is open to nonmembers.   Registration form and more details can be found in this newsletter (pp. 2-3 and 14-16). For more information, contact Beth Clark at clarkbeth100@gmail.com.
